Welcome! You have arrived inside Web Home!
You arrived here because you clicked on a button, but there is much more to it than meets the eye.
First off, someone had to invent the computer. Then someone else invented ways for computers to communicate with one another. Nowadays, just about everyone in industrial societies uses computers.
Then, someone built the computer you are using. It was, of course, the computer maker.
Someone else built the computer I am using. It was me, but I had to buy the parts. I built my own computer. In future installments, I can help you to build your own computer also, (for the timid, it will explain how), and will take you to meet other people who design and build computers.
Computers have been communicating with each other ever since I first started using them. About 10 years after I first started using computers in the 1970’s, at Digital Equipment Corporation , there was a lot of excitement in the computer world about new computer communication protocols referred to as the world wide web, and the internet. The Star Wars generation had heard of hyperspace, and now there are hyperlinks. We just call them links now. There is a lot that happens when you click on a link.
I was also fortunate to be one of the first people in America to learn about compact disks - CD’s. What an amazing potential, we all thought, as we listened to CD music and found out that just one CD could store all the information in a set of encyclopedias!
Next, we’ll be looking at some fun things you can do with a computer, so as they say in television and radio land, stay tuned.
